Profile - James Darcy

  • Name: James Darcy
  • Age: 21
  • Years Playing: 3 years
  • Current team(s): Hammertime
  • Position: Cutter
  • Favourite Ultimate Moment: Beating Limerick in IVs this year with DCU was brilliant. But also playing my first tournament with Ireland was great. Winning MVP for the first day, scoring that double happiness point and scoring my first callahan, made it a pretty successful tournament for me.:)
  • What are you enjoying most/most looking forward to in the ECBU campaign: Playing against the top international teams in Europe, and Ireland pulling off a few upsets against the big teams. I'm also looking forward to getting back into the full fitness routine, now that I've finally finished my final year exams and project.
  • Anyone you're particularly excited to play alongside: I'm looking forward to playing with everybody. I think we've all gelled as a team after Yes But Nau, and look forward to playing as a team again. It's great to play alongside Kev too. His work rate on the pitch is fantastic. And I suppose the banter room lads were pretty successful in Yes But Nau, so I'm definitely looking forward to us tearing it up in Calafell, both on and off the pitch.
  • Personal Paragraph: I've been playing Ultimate for 3 years now. I never thought I would become so attached to a sport. The ultimate community, the atmosphere of the game and the game itself is just brilliant. My first time playing beach ultimate was the trial for the Irish team. I'm still getting used to the whole running on sand job, but I'll get there and as a plus playing beach is really improving my grass game. I cannot wait to step foot on the pitches in Calafell. I think both Irish teams travelling to ECBU have a great shot at causing a few raised eyebrows. It should be a very successful tournament for both Open and Mixed teams

  • Steve Sez: Had some blinding grabs at Yes But Nau. Seemed to enjoy shoving his grapes in people's mouths way too much though.

Profile - Kevin Timoney

  • Name: Kevin
  • Age: 26
  • Years Playing: 7 in October
  • Current team(s): Ranelagh
  • Position: Cutter
  • Favourite Ultimate Moment: Winning AIUC Open in 2012.
  • What are you enjoying most/most looking forward to in the ECBU campaign: Playing for Ireland for the 2nd time and taking on the best in Europe.
  • Anyone you're particularly excited to play alongside: The team has great guys on board, all of which I'm pleased to step onto the line with. I'd played tournaments with most of them at some point or another before, but I'm delighted to play on the same team as Colm, Steve, Eoghan, Ciaran and "Mugsy P" for the first time.
  • Personal Paragraph: Short story long, I started playing ultimate in Trinity in Oct 2006, after dabbling in Volleyball. I graduated in 2009. I played tournaments for Johnny Chimpo from 2008 until the club disbanded in 2010, the same year I trained with Dublin Ultimate for Tour and WUCC in Prague, and played for Ireland Under-23 Open at World Under-23 Championships in Florence. I then moved to Barcelona until mid-2011, playing with Patatas Bravas who held beach training every Sunday all year round, and I trained with Catalyst for their first season. When I got back to Ireland in July I joined Rebel Ultimate and played with them for the rest of the 2011 season. I've been a member of Ranelagh since the club was founded in late 2011, and I've played Club Summer League and some tournaments with Hammertime too.

  • Steve Sez:  I thought Chris Linter could sleep for Ireland but Kev has taken nap time to another level. Expect an extensive album of 'Photos of Kev Sleeping' from ECBU.

Profile - Alan Pierce

  • Name: Pierce
  • Age: 24
  • Years Playing: Almost 6 (on and off)
  • Current team(s): OCS Ultimate
  • Position: D-Line Cutter
  • Favourite Ultimate Moment: Making this team!
  • What are you enjoying most/most looking forward to in the ECBU campaign: I'm enjoying how forgiving sand is when I show a complete lack of respect for my body. Found out the hard way at AIMC that grass isn't quite so nice.
  • Anyone you're particularly excited to play alongside: It's always exciting and beneficial to play with new people. I'm learning a lot from the likes of Steve and Kev, while having loadsa fun on and off pitch with Juno (Watch out for our celebration on strizna.cz!).
  • Personal Paragraph: As mentioned above: Grass sucks. Waiting on the results of a CT Scan at the moment to see if I can even play ECBU, but I'm a blind optimist so stick me on your Fantasy squad sure!

  • Steve Sez: Clearly needs to get some more milk in his diet. Seriously though, really hoping to see him back to fitness and pick up another lay-out D in Spain.

Profile - Gearóid Ó Fearghaíl (Team Manager)

  • Name: Ger
  • Age: 24
  • Years Playing: 6 or 7
  • Current team(s):
  • Position: Handler
  • Favourite Ultimate Moment: Not sure really.
  • What are you enjoying most/most looking forward to in the ECBU campaign: I'm looking forward to some excellent bids for dodgy discs! And also the sunburn everyone will be suffering by Sunday!
  • Anyone you're particularly excited to play alongside: That Eoghan Staunton lad seems good
  • Personal Paragraph: See Facebook

  • Steve Sez: A fellow engineer who not only appreciates all the fine detail of how something works but also loves sharing that information with humanities graduates who aren't interested. What a guy!
